What exactly is Sodium silicate? The sodium silicate, which is also known as paohua , is an inorganic chemical and its aqueous solution, generally referred to as sodium sulfate it is a mineral adhesive. Chemical formula: Na2O*nSiO2. It is a liquid inorganic silicate with a broad range of applications. Soluble in water, sodium silicate is colorless, lightly translucent or transparent glass body, commonly used as a filler for fabric, fire retardant and adhesive. What can Sodium Silicate be used in? Soaps and detergents It is possible for sodium silicate to enhance the surface effects including wetting organic surfactants (reducing surface tension) it helps to keep small particles of dirt or oil from being absorbed by the detergent or increasing the ability to eliminate dirt from the surface. The calcium silicate's alkalinity allows it to counteract acidic soil and promote the emulsification of oil and dispersing of protein. Packaging Silicate sodium as a cardboard coating can increase the strength of the cardboard and increase their resistance to humidity fire and other pests. Silicate is also used as an oil repellent in its own. The sodium silicate may be used as a primer for the application of auxiliary substances including paraffin, NAP chloride, wax varnish, nitrocellulose and other cardboard coatings. It fills the pores of the paper and reduces the water absorption of the material, therefore reducing the amount topcoat required. Construction Soluble silicate may be used as a cement binder. When Portland is combined with cement, the components undergo chemical reactions to form materials with strong bonding properties. It is also utilized to increase the durability of concrete. Mining industry Soluble Silica is utilized in numerous mineral enrichment process. The primary use of sodium silicate in flotation of ore is to serve as an antiflocculant in order to disperse unwanted siliceous substances. A small amount of silicate in a quantity similar as the ones used in cleaning operations is required. The capacity of silicate to create a sodium-ion layer on the particle surface is crucial in preparing the surface for specific separation. Silicate from sodium helps prevent erosion, and thus reduce ball use in the mill. Remediation of the water The dilute solution of anionic silica created by soluble silicate could hinder the corrosion of a metal surface. As an additive in water, the dissolved SiO2 helps prevent the corrosion of storage tanks made of metal as well as distribution lines. It decreases the risk of corrosion on pipelines and pumps by acidic water (for example, mine drainage) It also reduces corrosion in ball rod mill grinding; and minimizes corrosion of processing equipment, which is an ingredient in spray drying, agglomeration or dry mix detergent formulations as well as metal parts of laundry and dishwashing equipment. It is also a component in the liquid in the permanent automobile cooling system. as an additive to water treatment compounds in boilers and cooling towers.
