Dangerous: The snake handler casually lifts one of the cobras so that he can sweep away eggs, dead skin and leaves that have gathered in the concrete pit in Southeast Asia

Catch me if you can: One of the deadly cobras recoils before lunging forward but the handler, wearing only flip-slops on his feet, remains unphased

Ready to strike: The cobras rear up and extend their hoods in a sign that they feel threatened and are ready to attack the handler with venom from their fangs

Surrounded: Hundreds of snakes inside the pit surround the cool handler who simply carries on his work of cleaning the enclosure

For most people, it would be their worst nightmare - trapped in a tiny concrete pit surrounded by hundreds of deadly snakes.

But this young animal worker appears ice cool, chewing on gum and barely flinching as he comes face-to-face with the venomous cobras.

The snake handler was recorded cleaning out the beast's enclosure at a zoo in Southeast Asia.

Dressed in casual flip-flops, shorts and t-shirt, the young man enters the cramped pit holding a broom.

With expert composure, he simply lifts the snakes by their necks and tosses them to one side.

He is surrounded in the pit by hundreds of the dark black and grey snakes which could spit venom from their razor-sharp fangs at any minute.

At one point, dozens of the creatures menacingly rare up and spread their hood as they flick their pointed tongues at the handler.

One snake even makes for his head several times as he bends down. But the handler merely grabs the reptile and thrown it several feet away.

With the enormous pile of snakes cleared away, he is able to sweep away eggs, leaves, dried skin and excrement.

The scene amazed a small number of tourists who had gathered above the pit. But incredibly, cleaning out the enclosure is a regular duty at the zoo.

The video has become a YouTube hit and earned the title of 'the world's most dangerous job'.

One astonished viewer said: 'Whatever this man is doing, I'm pretty damn sure he's not getting paid enough to do this.'

Another added: 'The only job Indiana Jones couldn't do.'

One wrote: 'The snakes are just staring at him, it's freaky and unnerving watching them just staring.'

Another joked: 'If Chuck Norris and terminator somehow had kids, they would be like him.'

But other users raised concerns about animal welfare that so many snakes were crammed into such a small enclosure.

'The snakes are packed in there like a bunch of sardines, can't even move around,' one person stated.

Cobras are venomous snakes that when disturbed can rear up and spread their neck in a characteristic threat display.

They live in hot tropical areas in Africa, Australia, and Southern Asia and their relatives, the Coral Snake, can be found in the United States.
