China’s Tianjin Pipe Group Corp. (TPCO) is on track to begin commercial production at a new seamless pipe mill in Texas by the summer of 2013, a company spokeswoman told AMM.
TPCO expects to break ground this summer on the $1-billion mill, which is expected to have an annual capacity of 550,000 tons per year of mostly smaller-diameter seamless pipe, she said, noting that the pipe sizes will range from 4-5/8 to 10-5/8 inches.
"The plant is still a go.. . . It always depends a little bit on how fast we can go and delivery times on some of the big equipment," the spokeswoman said. "But everything is very much moving forward."
TPCO plans to build a rolling mill in San Patricio County, Texas, along with a new electric furnace to supply raw material for the pipe mill.
